July 17- The Sound of Rebirth…The Sound of Community by Molly in Nashville
Saturday, July 17th, 2010Here in Music City, the students from St Nicholas Flower Mound spent a week serving, learning, and laughing while at the same time focusing on the role that sound plays in their lives and in their journeys of faith. From rhythm, to volume, to pitch, to tone, they explored the elements of sound and the difference between merely hearing and actually listening.
They listened to the stories of refugees, battered women, prostitutes, and drug addicts. They listened to the laughter of children. They listened to the music of a Nashville recording artist. They listened to the sounds of a new city. They listened to one another. Mostly, they listened to the voice of God. After listening to all of these diverse sounds, they chose the words ‘rebirth’ and ‘community’ to best describe the common threads that ran through them all.
As they head back to the familiar world of Flower Mound, these amazing young people take back with them the strength that a real community provides, and the knowledge that from God, through Christ, in the power of the Spirit, not only is rebirth possible, it is available to us all. May they continue to grow in strength, and wisdom; and may they continue to listen to the voice of God in His word, in the voices of His children, and in this amazing world He has created.
