July 17- The Sound of Rebirth…The Sound of Community by Molly in Nashville

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Here in Music City, the students from St Nicholas Flower Mound spent a week serving, learning, and laughing while at the same time focusing on the role that sound plays in their lives and in their journeys of faith. From rhythm, to volume, to pitch, to tone, they explored the elements of sound and the difference between merely hearing and actually listening.

They listened to the stories of refugees, battered women, prostitutes, and drug addicts.  They listened to the laughter of children.  They listened to the music of a Nashville recording artist. They listened to the sounds of a new city.  They listened to one another.  Mostly, they listened to the voice of God.  After listening to all of these diverse sounds, they chose the words ‘rebirth’ and ‘community’ to best describe the common threads that ran through them all.

As they head back to the familiar world of Flower Mound, these amazing young people take back with them the strength that a real community provides, and the knowledge that from God, through Christ, in the power of the Spirit, not only is rebirth possible, it is available to us all.  May they continue to grow in strength, and wisdom; and may they continue to listen to the voice of God in His word, in the voices of His children, and in this amazing world He has created.

July 16- Thoughts Inspired by the Labyrinth by Sam (a pilgrim in Nashville)

When you look ahead at the path that lies before you, it seems confusing, full if twists and turns. It is frightening, but you know your destination, and that if you follow this path, you will get there.  And so, without knowing or understanding what lies ahead, we go down this path, because it is our Lord and Creator that laid it before us. Our faith in Him is what allows us to continue down this path without fearing what lies ahead, even when it seems as though our path draws us away from our destination.  We will be guided by Him, and when we reach our destination, we will understand His path has brought us there.
