Introducing… Jason Wendel
Jason is also our Administrative Voyage Director extraordinaire. He was one of the three brave souls to join us on our first pilgrimages to Ireland in 2000, making him the longest standing staff member of Wonder Voyage. Jason has a degree in Media and he owns his own web design company, Flying Donut Media. Though Jason spearheads the huge responsibility of our web design and communication, his greatest love is the adventure of traveling around the world and serving those who are in need.
We asked Jason for his thoughts about the 2009 summer voyage season:
“I don’t think I have a favorite part to leading a Wonder Voyage, I really love it all. I get to meet new people, travel around the world, try my hand an different skills (painting, building, landscaping, etc), serve communities throughout the world, learn about and experience different cultures, and show the love of Christ in all sorts of ways, all while earning a paycheck! What’s not to love?!
I have a couple of favorite location I visit around the world. I love the beauty, pace and friendly people of Ireland and it will always remain at the top of my list. New York City has quickly become one of my favorites. I don’t like big cities, pollution, construction, traffic, crowds, materialism and the many other things that goes with the big city life but I love NYC! It is such a unique city that has to be experienced. And quickly moving to the top of the list is Central America. In all the countries I have visited in Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica), I have met some of the friendliest people, eaten amazing food and seen beautiful terrain. As a matter of fact, I loved it so much that I decided to spend a few months down there learning Spanish!
I do have some advice about leading your teams. I recommend trying not to have any preconceived expectations, leave your agenda at home and just live in the moment. It’s amazing what can happen when we let God be in control instead of ourselves.”
